Creating a Pressure Network from a Water Industry Model

You can create a pressure network from water industry model data that was created in AutoCAD Map 3D.

The data must be stored in an industry model drawing, and the water industry model features must be visible in order to select them. A water industry model is a specialized schema that has feature classes, rules, and relationships for the water industry.

NoteThis command is specific to water industry data. Other industry model data cannot be converted using this command. Water industry models may be created in AutoCAD Map 3D. For more information, please see the Water Module Help for AutoCAD Map 3D.

The water industry model is converted using the default parts list assigned in the CreatePressureFromIndModel command settings.

The parts are converted using the following matching rules:

If the current parts list does not contain a part that matches the part in the industry model, then a message is displayed in the Event Viewer. In some cases, if a part type cannot be found, the industry model part is not converted. In other cases, parts may be converted based on the best available, but perhaps not exact, match. Please check the Event Viewer for these messages.

System Condition UI Interaction Message

The current parts list does not have any pipes, or fittings, or appurtenances in it.

For example, if the part required is a Tee, but the parts list has no fitting types at all, then no part is inserted.

Event Viewer message "Source feature <name> - ID <n> was not converted because it has no part type."

The current parts list does not have a specific part type (pipe, fitting, or appurtenance type).

For example, if the part required is a Tee, and the parts list has no Tee type but does have an Elbow, it will use the Elbow type.

Event Viewer message “Source feature <name> - ID <n> was converted, but an exact match of part type was not found.”

The current parts list does not have a specific part material.

For example, if the part required is a Tee with material as Ductile Iron, and a Tee is found, but it is not a Ductile Iron Tee.

Event Viewer message “Source feature <name> - ID <n> was converted, but an exact match of part material was not found.”
The current parts list has at least one part that matches the required part type N/A N/A

To create a pressure network from a water industry model

  1. Open the water industry model drawing in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
NoteAs a prerequisite to this procedure, the water industry model drawing must be created in AutoCAD Map 3D. The drawing should be prepared so that the industry model layers are visible when the drawing is opened in AutoCAD Civil 3D. You may use the Display Manager tab of the Task Pane to control layer visibility.
  2. Specify the parts list to use for conversion in the CreatePressureFromIndModel command settings.
NoteIf a parts list is not available in the drawing, specify the pressure network catalog and create a parts list.
  3. On the Home tab, click Create Design panel Pipe Network Create Pressure Network From Industry Model .
  4. Select the industry model data you want to convert and then press Enter.
NoteYou can use standard AutoCAD selection options to select the data, or you can enter I for crossIngrectangle to select the objects within and crossing the boundary of a crossing rectangle. When using the crossIngrectangle option, the crossing rectangle can be drawn from left to right or from right to left.

The data is converted to an AutoCAD Civil 3D pressure network.

  5. Check the Event Viewer for any messages.
