In this topic an orthographic image will be draped over the faces of an imported ground surface that represent the existing ground surface of the scene.
From the 3ds Max Design File menu, open the file LinkRoad-1.max or work through the Importing VSP3D Files topic to build the same scene from scratch.
Select the imported surface C3Dsurface-C-SURFACE-GroundExtgContext from the 3ds Max Design viewport. The Civil View Surface Parameters rollout appears in the Civil View Explorer panel. This rollout displays source information and other attributes associated with the selected imported surface object.
From the Civil View Surface Parameters rollout, select the Draping tab.
The Draping tab allows any bitmap to be draped across all faces on the selected surface object that use a specified material ID. In this case, the bitmap will be draped across faces currently displaying a checker material.
If a World File exists for the selected bitmap (in the same folder as the selected bitmap and with the same basic file name), the bitmap will be placed in the correct geographic location and at the correct scale automatically. For more information on world files, refer to the Civil View Help documentation.
Press the Choose Bitmap button then select linkroad.jpg. Answer Yes when prompted to decide whether you wish to display the selected bitmap in the viewport.
The bitmap is draped over the surface. Because a world file called linkroad.jgw was detected, the bitmap is placed in the correct geographic location automatically.
This task has now been completed.
In the next task, swept bridge structures will be added to the visualisation using the Civil View Swept Object Style Editor.
