New in This Release

This release of AutoCAD Map 3D includes the following new features:

Enhanced labeling and annotation support

Edit Dynamic Labels

Watch video (2:10)

If you created dynamic labels using the Style Editor, you can instantly convert individual labels to MText or annotative text to reposition and reformat them. You can change the position, content, color, font, style, case, sub- and superscript of the individual text item. You can also add leader lines. You can select any font that is installed on your system. For more information, see Adjusting Individual Labels.

Convert Labels to FDO Text

Watch video (2:08)

If you created dynamic labels using the Style Editor, you can convert them to a text layer. You can convert all the labels on the specified feature class, or all the labels in that feature class that you can see in the current view. For more information, see Converting Labels to a Text Layer or to MText.

Convert Labels to Mtext

Watch video (1:23)

If you created dynamic labels using the Style Editor, you can convert them to MText stored on an AutoCAD layer. You can convert all the labels on the specified feature class, or all the labels in that feature class that you can see in the current view. For more information, see Converting Labels to a Text Layer or to MText.

Convert Mtext to FDO Text

Watch video (1:49)

If your annotation data is currently stored as MText, you can convert it to an FDO text layer. A text layer is stored as a separate data store, which you can reuse in multiple maps. Because it is a feature layer, it can use the advanced styling options available for features. For more information, see Converting MText to a Text Layer.

Enhanced styling options

Create Complex Styles for Polygon Features

Watch video (1:47)

Enhanced polygon styles allow you to combine text and symbols and create complex outlines and fills. For more information, see Using Enhanced and Standard Styles.

Create Complex Styles for Line Features

Watch video (1:51)

Enhanced line styles support lines with symbols, composite line styles, caps and joins, and the ability to offset symbols from line ends. For more information, see Styling Line Features.

New User Interface for Styling and Labeling Features

Watch video (5:04)

Enhanced label styles allow you to combine text and symbols. You can create complex outlines and fills, and used advanced text formatting. For more information, see Adding Labels to Features.

Expanded coordinate system functionality

New User Interface for Coordinate Systems

Watch video (2:03)

The Coordinate System Library has new methods for sorting and filtering coordinate system items. For more information, see Using the Coordinate System Library

Create a Coordinate System Transformation from Grid Files

Watch video (2:18)

Define geodetic transformations and transformation paths, as well as datums and ellipsoids. For more information, see Defining Geodetic Transformations.
Workspaces based on your workflow

Planning & Analysis, 2D Drafting, and Maintenance Workspaces

Watch video (7:48)

Three ribbon workspaces streamline tasks for 2D drafting, planning and analysis, and asset maintenance. For more information, see Workspaces and Customize Your Working Environment.
Industry models for utilities

Industry Model Templates

Watch video (4:44)

Industry models contain predefined, industry-specific schemas. There are file-based industry model drawings and enterprise industry models. File-based industry model drawings are regular DWG files that contain an industry model. Enterprise industry models use a specific Oracle database.

Records Management

Watch video (4:20)

When you create an industry model drawing, you have access to extra features, such as feature class forms, reports, and analysis tools. For more information, see Overview of Industry Models.
Enhanced support for reference grids New options when you save to AutoCAD format

Create a Grid in USNG or LatLong Format

Watch video (2:10)

More reference grid types are supported. You can define the actual scale and precision of the grid. When you plot your map, the reference grid will be printed over it. For more information, see Adding a Reference Grid to a Map.

Save Your Map to Plain AutoCAD Format

Watch video (2:27)

The new Save Current Map to AutoCAD wizard has two methods for converting your map to AutoCAD format. The Editable option creates an AutoCAD drawing that contains (to the degree possible) a single styled entity for each entity in the original map. You can control which feature classes are mapped to different layers, linetypes, or block references.

The Visual method maintains visual fidelity to the greatest extent possible. Individual features are, for the most part, ignored. The display map is reconstructed in AutoCAD using as many entities as needed.

Perform Storm and Sanitary Analysis Set arc segmentation values
If you are using a wastewater enterprise industry model , you can perform hydraulic water analysis to evaluate an existing or new sewer system for planning, rehabilitation, maintenance, and network extensions. For more information, see Perform Storm and Sanitary Analysis. Feature source providers that do not support circular arcs create segmented lines to simulate the curves of an arc. This is called tessellation. You can specify the arc-chord distance, which determines the density of the segmented lines, for such providers. For more information, see Setting Arc Segmentation Values.
Enhanced data provider support Improvements to the Data Connect dialog box
  • If a feature source contains only a single feature class, that feature class is selected automatically. If it contains multiple feature classes, you can right-click any of them and select Select All or Select None. For more information, see Overview of Bringing In GIS Features.
  • If a feature class contains multiple geometry types, and you select the feature class itself, all geometries are added. To add a subset of geometries, hold your cursor over the feature class name to see the Show Geometry button. Click Show Geometry to see each geometry as a separate choice. Select the ones you want. Each selected geometry is added to map as a separate Display Manager layer. For more information, see the topic for bringing in data for feature stores that support multiple geometries in a feature class, for example, Bringing In Features from Oracle.
